Description: Marina Alvarez (QDEP) was a celebrated AIDS activist and member of the Latina/o Caucus. In 1997, Marina graced the first issue of POZ Magazine en Español where she shared her journey organizing HIV positive women and intravenous drug users while serving time in the New York Prison system to headlining international AIDS conferences and being invited on prime-time talk shows. Marina's lead article in POZ was written by a young Maria Hinojosa, who would later become one of the most influential Latina journalists in the U.S.
